Festive Eggnog Recipe

In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make her Festive Holiday Eggnog. This is a drink that uses common ingredients that combine to give an uncommon taste! Youll want to keep the ingredients on hand throughout the holiday season to treat your guests to luscious nutmeg-topped eggnog! Note: On the video, I made only one-half of the recipe for demonstrations purposes, but I am giving you the full recipe below, so you will note that all amounts have been doubled, and this makes a nice amount for a punch bowl. Ingredients: 6 eggs 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 4 cups milk 1/2 pint heavy whipping cream (very cold) salt, to taste ground nutmeg, for sprinkling the top of the punch bowl or the top of individual servings light rum, to taste (if desired) In a large mixing bowl, beat 6 eggs. Mix in 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 4 cups milk, and salt, to taste. Beat ½ pint heavy whipping cream, until soft peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the egg and milk mixture. Pour into a punch bowl. Sprinkle the top with nutmeg. Chill for at least 4 hours before serving. You may add light rum, if you want an alcoholic version of eggnog. You may also sprinkle the tops of the individual servings with additional nutmeg. This is a beautiful and tasty drink that you can have all year around, but it is very special during the holiday season. I hope you enjoy it! –Betty 

@Supersonic27100 It has an optional ingredient of rum. If you add it, then it’s an alcoholic drink–but you may easily leave it out and have a nonalcoholic version.

I recommend put some Cinammon on top once is served, (powder), and for rum i REALLY recommend “Havana 7″ (white)

You need to use a good video editor to help your videos go smoother. You can cut out mistakes and the like. Just a suggestion.

Hi Betty! I just watched this & it looks wonderful! I don’t see anything wrong with it at all. Infact, it looks really, really good with that sweetened condensed milk (yummy)! I just watched your other eggnog with eggbeaters & I like this one better =) Using eggs are fine don’t worry. This is an aged old recipe & they didn’t use eggbeaters way back in the old days.Could you imagine Oliva Walton in 1930′s adding eggbeaters to hers?lol She used regular eggs. I LOVE this recipe! Thanks! Hugs!

@derekbegins I uploaded a video of Eggnog with Egg Substitute yesterday, in which the milk and egg gets heated.

@MrJoseppie123 Eggnog is a sweetened dairy-based beverage traditionally made with milk and/or cream, sugar, beaten eggs (which gives it a frothy texture), and liquor. Brandy, rum, or whisky is generally added; and the finished serving would be garnished with a sprinkling of ground cinnamon or nutmeg.

@gaanaru98 No, whipping cream is sometimes called sweet cream. It’s just regular cream, but heavy so that it will beat well.

betty.. do you have a recipe that requires you to heat the milk and egg ?it’s much more safer. because even if the egg is safe and intact, the salmonella can pierce through the shell of the egg.

@madpop17 Raw eggs are traditionally used in eggnog. If you prefer not to use raw eggs (which are perfectly safe if completely intact), use can use pasteurized egg substitute.

You can purchase egg nog in the UK but few shops sell it, you have to know where to go….I bought a can of Borden’s eggnog about 3 hrs ago in a westindian grocery shop for £4.50. This same product is available on amazon for £7.99.

@KentuckyRebels It’s a lot easier to get Advocat in the UK, which is an alcoholic egg nog.

@cammymufc17 Are you kidding, not meant to be sarcastic? I thought eggnog originated from the UK and Canada? I was looking forward to purchasing it in the UK and europe someday. Well as the saying goes, you learn something new everyday. Thanks for educating me.

@cammymufc17 I live in Belgium and have the exact same problem. From what I gathered on google (wikipedia and other sites) a USA cup is 236.59 ml (I guess we can round it up a little ;) ). We don’t have eggnog here either :( But whenever I’m in London around xmas time I have an eggnog latte at starbucks (and sometimes i add in a mini-pre-filled-at-home bottle of bayleys), delicious! I definitely want to make eggnog this year :)
